What Are the Most Common Causes of Gallstones?

Gallbladder inflammation occurs when gallstones irritate the inner lining of the gallbladder while biliary colic is caused when a gallstone passes through the bile duct into duodenum. For this reason, overweight people are far more likely to develop gallstones since their diets are more likely to be high in cholesterol. Other causes of gallstones can include going on very low-calorie diets because this can upset the balance of the chemicals that make up the bile causing gallstones to be created. Also, older people and women are more likely to be affected by gallstones.
