If you have ever experienced inflammation of the gallbladder or biliary colic you will know just how severely painful these conditions can be. Gallbladder inflammation occurs when gallstones irritate the inner lining of the gallbladder while biliary colic is caused when a gallstone passes through the bile duct into duodenum. What, then, are the main causes of gallstones in the first place that result in these painful problems?

Cure Gallstones…

To understand what the causes of gallstones are, it is useful to know a little bit about what the gallbladder is. Gallbladder is a small sack located under the liver that stores a green liquid known as bile that the liver creates. This bile is used to digest foods in the intestines.

Bile is made up of a mixture of cholesterol, bile salts and pigments like bilirubin. When there is an imbalance in this mixture, small solids begin to form and combine to form gallstones. 80% of gallstones are caused by there being an excess of cholesterol in the bile, while the remaining 20% are caused by there being too much pigments.

So, the main cause of gallstones that are due to excess cholesterol is a diet that of high-fat, high cholesterol foods. For this reason, overweight people are far more likely to develop gallstones since their diets are more likely to be high in cholesterol. Other causes of gallstones can include going on very low-calorie diets because this can upset the balance of the chemicals that make up the bile causing gallstones to be created. Also, older people and women are more likely to be affected by gallstones.
